Summary
When Ana Watson's brother ditches a high school trip to run wild at washing-con. type-A Ana knows that she must find him or risk her last shot at freedom from her extra-controlling parents.
In her desperation, she's forced to enlist the last person she'd ever want to spend time with, slacker Zak Duquette - to help her find her brother before morning comes.
But over the course of the night, while being chased by hordes of costume Vikings and zombies, Ana and Zak begin to open up to each other. Soon, what starts as the most insane nerdfighter manhunt transform into so much more...
Review
The improbable theory of Ana and Zak was an interesting read. It showed the perspective of a certain different lifestyles, two different people and how their lives get intertwined over one mistake. Brian Katcher made each character distinct and likable, though at times it was annoying with Anna constantly thing Zak to be 'stupid' or see him as a clique nerd - which he wasn't. Same goes for him to, I guess what I'm trying to get at is, they knew nothing about each other, and at certain parts I just wanted to put the book down because of the constant judging and second guessing themselves about each other.
The novel has an amazing setting of the convention and I absolutely loved it, the description were vivid making me feel like a part of all the actions, plus I personally really like the idea of conventions, bringing people together with the same interest from all over the world, I just love it. At times I really liked how Ana became care-free and joined in, and that's something I really wanted to see more of but Ana just wanted to find her brother before the unthinkable happened, her parents finding out.
The suspense of why and how Ana became how she is was very unexpected, but the idea of finally finding out was something I really looked forward to. The pacing of when new aspects were introduced was well planned out, there was just enough happening to keep you interested. Seeing the action and the course of the night from both of them was different and an aspect that made this book more enjoyable, because of how different they both are it was the same with each chapter. Zak, became the happy, live in the moment character, and Ana the rule abiding student and daughter.
After finishing this novel, the main aspect that stood out was how Brian showed the different ways people deal with problems and losses, and the physical and emotional change they go through each problem. Brian Katcher has done an amazing job bringing this novel to life. Though certain aspects did make things unbelievable, the plot and the character development kept things balanced. However I really did hoped to see more progress with certain relationships, but I guess that just added more realism to the book, showing there is no end to how relationship develop and leaving it the readers imagination.
