Review: Timebomb #1 by Scott K. Andrews

Summary

New York city, 2141: Yojana Patel throws herself off a skyscraper, but never hits the ground.

Cornwall, 1640: Gentle young Dora Predennick, newly come to Sweetclover Hall to work, discovers a badly-burnt woman at the bottom of a flight of stairs. When she reached out to comfort the dying woman, she's knocked unconscious, only to wake, centuries later, in an empty laboratory room.

Review

Timebomb, the first book which I hope is not the last. A compelling and very gripping read, not only does it incorporate time traveling it has more than three people who can, wait more like a LOT of people. I was so EXICTED to be reading a time traveling novel after a very long time. Thinking back it was Tempest by Julie Cross. After reading Timebomb it is now one of the best time traveling books I have read it was just amazing. 

Each character had a huge role to play in finding the curious Quil, each were distinct and different. And that's what I loved the most, that they all where different; Jana being a leader and a risk taker which isn't really 'her' it's programmed in to her, not making any sense? Read it and it'll become way more clear. Kaz, sweet and understanding and knows how to deal with situations, especially after he discovered he could time travel, then everything was exciting and like an adventure but then things got serious. And finally we have Dora the youngest of them all but the most challenging one, and at the end I was very happy with how things worked out for her or will work out. What I liked the most was how Scott had alternated the chapters between each of them and other characters who joined later on, giving us and making us feel and experience what each of them where feeling and trust me for each character there was a HUGE difference. 

The plot line was very confusing, yet so intense. Not once did I feel like skipping or putting it down until I could handle how it was going. With the first couple of chapters we find out more about each of them and who Sweetclover is, oh and who this doppelgänger is and that is when the action starts with Jana, Kaz and Dora at the heart of it all against a force that will alter their presents having a knock on affect on their future. Will Jana, Kaz and Dora stop bickering long enough to find Quil and what does she want with Jana's chip? What will happen to Kaz and Jana? Will Dora save her family from Sweetclover? 

Scott has done a really great job with this amazing time traveling novel especially the idea of Jana, Kaz and Dora being from the future, present and past. I loved how Dora was so demanding with answers with questions about all the technology and how Jana didn't go down without a fight. All supporting characters helped Jana, Kaz and Dora to find the truth and defend those who are worth defending; Thomas, Dora's father and Dora's mother, Sarah. Mountfort who was ultimately the reason for Dora's escape, James who's story you must read to find out. This novel brings you a whirl-winding adventure that will turn into life or death for all those involved, learning to trust, but most of all defeating an enemy that only wishes harm upon Jana, Kaz and Dora.

OKAYYYY just the other day I was tagged by the lovely Rita to do her "Halloween Tag" which consists of some really awesome Halloween related questions that really got me thinking. SO lets get answering...

Questions 

1. The Vampire - A book that sucked out your feels and KILLED THEM. ;)

NOPE not going to answer this. Why? Because MY FEELS ARE STILL TRYING TO RECOVER. Oh fine if you insist that much, The Vampire is Alliegent *Sobs*

2. The Witch - A book that cast a spell on you, that you were enchanted with.

The Book Thief, boy can that book enchant me whenever it wants. IT WAS PERFECT 

3. The Skeleton - A book that was simple, but worked perfectly.

Under The Never Sky - I absolutely loved this books, it was just perfect to begin an awesome trilogy. 

4. The Werewolf - A book that made you so angry you almost didn't recognize yourself

Half Blood, hands down THIS BOOK CHANGED ME and not in a good way. Throughout the whole book my mood would be like this * AW, YES YES YES* or *OH MY GOD NO DON'T DO THIS TO MEEEE* and that is how I ended up with absolute NO feels

5. The Zombie - A book that had you reading throughout the night

This just has to be Foretold the last book in The Demon Trapper series. The ultimate book of DOOM. After finishing this book on a school night (which I do not regret, okay maybe a little) I awoke in the morning looking closely like this;

Review: Geek Girl - Model Misfits #2 by Holly Smale

Summary

Harriet Manners knows a lot of facts.

• Humans have 70,000 thoughts per day
• Caterpillars have four thousand muscles 
• The average person eats a ton of food a year
• Being a geek+Model = a whole new set of graffiti on your belongings 

but clearly she knows nothing about boys. And on a whirlwind modelling trip to Tokyo, Harriet would trade in everything she's ever learnt for just the faintest idea of what she's supposed to do next...

Review

This is the second installment to Geek Girl - From Geek to Chick, even more amazing, hilarious, heartbreaking and a lot more misfits that Harriet Manners can conjure.  But they are not ALL her fault, Japan for summer seems like the best decision that Harriet came to make after her "Summer of Fun Flowchart" that included Nat and Toby. YES TOBY turned in to an epic fail! For her it seemed to be the ultimate release from what she thought was a really crap life and it all started with a very golden face. 

Once again, Holly Smale has blown me away, having read book one in the Geek Girl series in one sitting I wasn't so willing to pick up book two and start reading it. Boy was that the biggest and most stupid decision I had made, I blame college. Model Misfits just topped off every thing possible in a lighthearted read, and everything Harriet Manners could do to make things worse for herself. From misunderstanding, to even MORE misunderstanding and quite a few alarm clocks that.... I'll let your imagination fill that part in. 

Right now trying to review this novel I can only compare it to trying to learn everything Harriet knows, which we all know is IMPOSSIBLE. But my thoughts are all over the place. There's a golden face, and some very ancient fossils, and brace yourself people a lot of: STOMP, BANG, SHOUT, SCREAM, Run away. And that's only in the first quarter of the book. So you can see why I'm baffled right now, in a good way of-course. 

The plot line was amazing, took so many twist and turns that I did not see coming. Which was even more amazing because it made me feel exactly how Harriet was feeling, like this;

I don't know how Holly had done that but it is really a job well done, it made me feel part of the crazy roller coaster ride that Harriet was left on. Not to forget Nat, Nick, Toby, Robert, Annabel, Wilbur and new comers Bunty, Rin and Poppy. The last two playing a BIG role in the misfits and are so not like Alexa and that is NOT a compliment, but that's for you to find out which one. 

I LOVE all the characters, Robert Manner being my all time favourite. He is not just your typical father, he is and I quote "Spider-man Brad Pitt" that quote says it all. Annabel once again probably the only sane one when it comes to matters that involve Harriet, but she is just what every one needs. Let's not forget WILBUR oh he will kill me with his new words and his killer sass, he is Harriet's Guardian angel and good one at that too. You could probably say Bunty is one too but the side-kick, why because WILBUR IS AWESOME, but I love them both and everything they did was ace. Nick OMG there is a big twist that involves him and ***** - hah find out - which left me and probably Harriet too like this:

He needs to be more clearer or maybe Harriet needs to stop over-thinking hmmmm which one do you think? Yuka was just her bad-ass self, full black and intimidating of-course and lets not forget TOBY who has been taken from stalker to friend but still is a stalker, what he does at the end is so awesome, I guess some stalker qualities are needed sometimes and then what he does after is HILARIOUS, even Nick thinks so too, not sure about Harriet. This novel brings you a whole new place, an adventure with Harriet Manners, a new modeling assignment. Put them together, now find out what will happen.

Review: The Clockwork Angel #1 by Cassandra Clare

Summary

In a time when Shadow-hunters are barely winning the fight against the force of darkness, one battle will change the course of history forever.

She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon slaying Shadow-hunters - including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them. 

Review

The Clockwork Angel is the first in a compelling trilogy with an even more compelling name; The Infernal Device. Set in a time long before now, is a young girl, Tessa who's powers not even the Shadow-hunters can explain or even the Downworlders. TID and TMI, both of the same background but of different plot line. Once I had heard both of these were written by the amazing Cassandra Clare the first thing that popped in to my mind was " Um which one am I supposed to read first?!" And finally on Goodreads the best advice was to read TID because it gave more of the Shadow-hunters background and I just had to read about this intriguing William Herondale, and I must say after reading this novel I am a big fan of Will. 

Throughout the whole novel the only thing that kept coming to my mind was "please don't let there be a love triangle, I love all the characters and a love triangle will not do justice to this novel", so when it became clear that Will and Tessa had mutual feelings, I thought it was the best thing EVER. From the start I just adored Will more, maybe because of his love with literature, maybe. Which in this case is a YES IT IS BECAUSE OF THAT. But Will kept shutting her out, though we didn't learn straight away why, it became much clearer later on. *Not going to say what but it broke my heart*.  

When that kept happening we started to get more insight on Jem and his "condition" I really like Jem he's down to earth and the peacemaker especially when it came to situations including Will. I absolutely loved Will and Jem's relationship, though they were not real brothers; being Parabatai was much more special for them. Cassandra has done a wonderful job portraying their relationship and that's what I loved most actually. The story-line was equally gripping as was each relationship in this novel,Tessa and Will, Charlotte and Henry who's relationship was so damn cute and sometimes heartbreaking when it came to people questioning Henry's capability. Oh lets not forget Jessamine who was possibly the only Shadow hunter who didn't want to be a Shadow-hunter, her and Wills relationship was pure banter and bickering, which was a nice mix to the story-line which was quite serious at times.    

Cassandra has done a really good job bringing this novel. Though it is not the same as The Mortal Instruments, it has it own unique part, as each character was reserved to an extent that shows they are from the 18th century. Again I loved the setting of this novel, London which was pretty awesome if you ask me, why because I don't visit London much even though it's a couple hour drive away, and reading about it was much more vivid with how I had pictured it in my mind. The Dark Sisters where a whole new level of crazy, they were the reason why Tessa had to come to London, they were the reason why Tessa became aware of her abilities and the reason Will and Jem stumbled upon young Tessa with a jug as a weapon. This novel brings you 18th century terror, past London setting, The Pandemonium Club, something far worse that the Dark Sisters and whole new game which has Tessa, Will and Jem at the heart of it all. And most importantly who is the Magister?

Ninja Book swap is a lovely and very secretive bookish swap and the best thing about it everyone has a different person to buy for and this was my first one and definitely not my last. For my first time I hope my Ninja Partner enjoys their parcel. And I was lucky enough to come home yesterday to find my parcel, it was a very very happy moment. My swap parcel was sent by Julie Boon and it was the cutest thing ever.

Review: The Geography of You and Me By Jennifer E. Smith

Summary

Owen and Lucy are stuck in a lift. As they await help, they start talking...

Though brief, the time they spent together leaves a mark. And as their lives take them to Edinburgh and San Francisco, to Prague and to Portland they can't shake the memory of the time they shared. Postcards cross the globe when they themselves can't, as Owen and Lucy experience they joy - and pain - of first love. 

As each makes their separate journey in search of home, they will discover that sometimes it is a person rather than a place that anchors you most in the world.

This was THE book that had somehow got me out of my most worse reading slump ever, with college starting it got hard to pick up a book. Which was really sad, but when this book came through the post I just had to read it, so it had become my companion on my journeys to college and from. 

This was a really great read, I loved the aspect of continuous post cards, the simplicity of it and how each one had effected Lucy and Owen. "From San Francisco to Edinburgh, to Prague and to Portland", it was all endless and really amazing to read of different places, and to make it even better the chapters had alternating views points between Lucy and Owen. I guess that had to happen else how would we know what each of them where doing or even thinking. Right? Each chapter had something different to give to the novel, either more happiness or sadness or even pure humour, it pulled all of the novels together making it one whole book of awesome. 

Though we don't learn straight away about Lucy's and Owen's personality, we learn through each chapter, it was like piecing two different puzzles together which soon become one. Both of them were so lovely and likable straight away, from their encounter in the elevator which was quite hilarious, to their separate lives in all the different places they where taken too. The distance did not once stop them from thinking of each other and the possibility that they would probably never meet again, but still that didn't stop them. 

Jennifer has done an amazing job with this novel, and I simply cannot stress how much this has become one of my favourite books to read, especially on a rainy day. What I loved more - and I know your all probably thinking "how much more can you" and the answer is a lot more - was how Jennifer had made Lucy and Owen just like ordinary teenagers, with moving around a lot - yes I would love to travel the world - but even considering that they are pretty average but, with an extraordinary love story. This novel brings you first love, a broken lift, and despite having to move to different places and schools Lucy and Owen's love will bring them both back to where it all began. Read it to find out where.

Review: Four - A divergent Story Collection by Veronica Roth

Summary

Review

Words cannot describe how happy I was when this was released. The release date brought happiness for getting more from Veronica Roth, especially from Tobias's "Four" point of view. It also brought sadness because of how Alliegent had ended. But nevertheless I tried my best to push that thought aside so I could focus solely on how they met and how things changed for Tobias's from his life in Abnegation to life in Dauntless. Veronica has done an AMAZING job bringing us this novel. I cannot stress this point enough but say that it was really nice to know more about Tobias and his thoughts, because for the best part of book one, divergent he masked his emotions, suppressed his feelings but everything was out in the open with this collection. 

The Transfer was all about Tobias leaving Abnegation, a life that he wanted to keep bottled up and if possible left wrapped in his grief to sink away. The setting was the same, same traditional choosing ceremony but different feelings, emotions and people to please. Simply mind blowing on how everything was portrayed for him and how he felt free from his old life; I guess that's how Four became a new identity. 

The Initiate was such a great read, reading about Four face his fears and reading about Eric still being a stuck up little punk was no surprise. It was also nice to know Four finally opening up to none another than, Amar. The one who helped him get through everything only to be greeted with his death? Not cool. I guess that brings him to back to square one, losing everyone but he doesn't let that bring him down, he will thrive after all he did become the number 1 Dauntless new members, Eric's not to happy about that, hahahaah! 

The Son is the beginning of a new start for Four with his almost new job and new apartment, everyone thinks he's perfect, perfect almost job, perfect life. Is he really living the perfect life?  Not exactly, when Tobias is reunited with his supposedly dead mom things change for him, he starts seeing things differently, questioning people, and mostly Jeanine Erudite leader. In this battle Tobias is facing his fears that are not all in his fear landscape, as I writ this review on the bus I cannot fail to remember what it was like to read the last pages of this story, it was gripping, left me teetering at the edge of my seat and then I remembered, there was one more short story. 

The Traitor, the beginning of something new for Four with the arrival of our new initiates including Tris. This was an amazing read, I really didn't want this particular one to end. Why? Because it was nice to read this part from Tobias's point of view as well as having Tris's view point from Divergent. All those times I was thinking "where has Four gone?" Or "So he just threw blades at her and just walked out". But now we know, he was all along aware of everything going on - not going to say what because spoilers guys, can't ruin it for those who haven't and have to read Divergent-. I absolutely love Zeke and all of those who helped Four to put Peter on the right track, which still didn't work because of "That thing". This was such a lovely read, after finishing the Divergent series. This collection brings you the amazing Tobias with the ultimate four short stories - how ironic is that - another fight for the truth but most of all a new beginning for Tobias as Four, but will he be able to leave the past behind or will the past not let him go? Read it to find out.
