Henry "Monty" Montague was born and bred to be a gentleman, but he was never one to be tamed. Review
I love historical fantasy, especially those that perfect a mix of history and fantasy so damn well. This book had been on my radar for a very long time: the concept of The Grand Tour was intriguing, plus the main POV is a guy who gets everything he wants, who honestly acts how you would expect - privileged, but he learns from his mistakes because those close to him don't let him off that easy. There's bisexual characters, PTSD, diverse characters, anxiety and m/m romance.
Gentleman's Guide is first person, and Monty is the best to see it all through. He's loud, overly dramatic and such a klutz. At times obnoxious and causes most of the problems but he learns from his mistakes. Protect Monty, smol baby! Percy is perfect to Monty's craziness! He's calm, collective and I really want his POV yo. He teaches Monty on his short comings, especially when it comes towards people of other races. Felicity is a badass mofo, an untrained but epic surgeon who basically always slays. The perfect addition to this amazing trio. She's a bookworm, a fierce woman who isn't taking shit from no one, not even her brother - Monty.
The plot was engaging at all times, the continents they went to - Paris, Marseille, Barcelona and a few unplanned, were amazingly described. With Monty around, you best believe this is going to be the most unheard Grand Tour, ever. The political/historical aspect was so well done - it kind of reminded me of a the Musketeers (the show) with the whole sabotage, power hungry court etc. It was just fricking fantastic and to know that Felicity is off on her own adventure - in The Lady's Guide to Piracy and Petticoats, so damn excited. (Present me - Which I am about to start oh so very soon)
There are truly not enough words to describe this book. I mean it has sailing, pirates and a hidden cipher they must uncover. Lee has truly written an masterpiece. So, embark on the most unseen, unheard Grand Tour ever - where the romance is full of angst, and the characters will steal your heart, unless the pirates get there first.
