Review
Okay guys, this is the first book I've read about and based around Egyptian Mythology, also the first book I've read by Colleen Houck. Going back to the Egyptian Mythology used throughout the novel, it was interesting. To be totally honest I was more intrigued by all the 'Legends' told in the story then the plot line itself. I know many of you may know about Egypt history and legends but sadly I don't. So I'm oblivious to whether or not Colleen Houck wrote actual facts or added a fictional twist to them all, plus I was never taught any Egyptian Mythology in my secondary school which now that I think about it, it sucks.
Going back to the story, I just don't know why but I couldn't find myself connecting with the main protagonist, Lilliana Young also known as Lily. Her parents are crazy rich, goes to a private girls school, designer clothes and over-bearing parents who acted more like wardens. So I guess I can understand the rebellion in her when she just goes to Egypt to help a very good looking sun god/mummy to raise his brothers to defeat the big bad antagonist, which we don't really meet just his 'minions', which is confusing, not the reason you expected, right?
The relationship Colleen tried to show just wasn't there. Fair enough you could sense the mutual attraction between Lily and the sun god, Amon, but the POV through Lily just wasn't helping by constantly throwing herself at him and wanting to be kissed, though later on you understand why such thing occurred it still didn't help, at all. But see, that's the thing, even though the POV never changed I could tell there was a serious reason why Amon was reluctant, but she didn't which was infuriating.
The plot-line was intriguing enough to make me finish it. The action was amazing, booby traps and a hell of a lot of creepy creatures, which was intense. I felt that when the second brother, Asten, was risen it got even more interesting and I wished that he and Ahmose were risen more earlier in the novel to add more pace to plot. I absolutely loved the trio of brothers, their relationship was amazing. It was heartbreaking at certain parts to see what they went through, but together the brought humor which was needed. Colleen Houck done a great job at keeping me clueless, and brought such a shocking twist. The ending was awesome and heartbreaking and it was only then that I felt Amon and Lily's relationship strengthen. I would have liked if Lily's parents were more constant throughout the novel, instead of them being mentioned at the very end on how they would react, I mean their daughter was gone for a whole week. WHAT!
