Summary
Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. Its's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father - an elusive European Warlock - only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts to much attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries and shapeshifters.
By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous Warlock, a creepy tag-along ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire student on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.
As a series of blood-curdling mysteries start to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.
Review
Hex hall is the first in a compelling series that brings us young Sophie Mercer and enough witty comments to keep you craving more; I sure did. There's a lot of things you can expect from a reform school for fellow young 'Prodigium' but nothing compared to what is in store with Hex Hall. Sophie isn't just an average teenager who just happens to do the wrong things, she's a witch who's spells always go down south making her and her mom move around quite a lot. But when a love-spell goes wrong it's up to her dad to decide her punishment and that is........ A one way trip to Hecate or as the students say 'Hex Hall'.
Sophie Mercer has seen more than anyone, being around in nineteen different states and having best friends for just 6 months, doesn't seem all that fun does it, nope!!! But when at Hex Hall having to share a room with Jenna a lesbian vampire who has too much love for the color pink sure changes that's all - Which is TOTALLY awesome, she kicked ass and I sure wouldn't mind to share a room with her - But when strange this start to happen with the fellow coven - who just happened to want Sophie to join them? Yeah not strange at all - fingers start pointing at Jenna AGAIN, it's up to Sophie to help and protect her only best friend, but to what extent will she go to help? And what will she discover about her family's past?

Not only is there a vampire, faeries, werewolves, witches, warlock; there's a deep dark secret in the midst of Hex Hall that Sophie is about to find out. I guess having being roomed with the schools most hated person (Jenna) and having pissed off the dark witches of the coven, what's left that can make Sophie make history, oh wait that's right; fall in love with Archer Cross a warlock who just happens to be the former boyfriend to Elodie (Dark witch part of the coven). But that's not all in place for Sophie, she just also happens to be on the hated list of the great Ms. Vanderlyden with no clue why!!! nice start to Hex Hall right? Archer Cross is as secretive as they can get, he got more interesting after ______ happened and it was a real shock to me, like what more would you expect from a broodingly handsome guy who takes the blame and joins you on cellar duty?
Things start to change between Sophie and Archer after they have cellar duty together; trust me it is not all it sound out to be! But that's not all; your probably wonder what more can happen to Sophie and the answer to that is A LOT. Rachel has done an amazing job bringing us this fast paced novel that shows the battle of one girl for the truth of everything. Despite going through and finding out so much, Sophie still has her witty and sarcastic comments ready for the people at Hex Hall. This book brings you a world full of witches, warlocks, faeries you name it, a thrilling and compelling read and enough wit to keep you reading. Read it to find out exactly where Sophie's journey will lead her and what Hex Hall has in store for her.
