Summary
The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women is a fairly typical all-girls school, that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE, the latest in chemical warfare in science; and students received extra credits for breaking CIA codes computer classes. So in truth, Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses, but it's a school for spies.
Cammie Morgan is a second generation Gallagher Girl, and by her sophomore year she's already fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in several different ways (three of which involve a piece of uncooked spaghetti). But the one thing the Gallagher Academy hasn't prepared her for is what to do when she falls for an ordinary boy who thinks she's an ordinary girl. Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, and track him through a mall without him ever being wiser, but can she have a regular relationship with a regular boy who can never know the truth about her? Cammie may be elite spy in training, but in her sophomore year, shes beginning her most dangerous mission; she's falling in love.
Review
This is the first book in the Gallagher Academy and Cammie's Sophomore year that might bring more that just her first Cover Operation lesson and her first ...... (Can't give a way the biggest spoiler now can I). This book is about over 300 pages of pure awesomeness, its not like everyday you hear about a private school for girls which is really a place to train girls to becomes spies. Nope!! nonetheless this book was an interesting read about a young girl who's first mission is a success for her; but doesn't feel accomplishment after losing two thirds of her team, but that's not the worse part; its the fact that she finally got to feel like an ordinary girl and that's not something girls at the Gallagher Academy feel often.
Cammie the 'Chameleon' is the reason we get to know about the Gallagher Academy, all because her mom said it's best to practice a Covert Operation Report, so in a way this is a report summarizing everything that had happened last semester, and boy was it a helluva lot that had happened. I loved that Ally made females more involved in the spy business and made them kick ass alongside being a normal sassy girl who go crazy when a new 'hot' teacher arrives at school. Like who wouldn't go crazy over a guy as hot as Joe Solomon? Despite being spies and going to the same school, each person has their unique aspect about them, they all aren't the same; like Cammie, she's an amazing street artist, Liz; total bookworm, Bex; total stubborn, guess that's a good thing when you get interrogated and Macey; a girl who know's how to make spy outfit sexy. But that's what I liked when reading this book, everyone was distinguished differently, we where able to see each character for who they really are despite the intense spy training.
I guess the biggest mission a young Gallagher girl can go on is falling in love with an ordinary boy, but the worse part is acting ordinary yourself. I guess that's why Cammie's and Josh's relationship didn't quite do it for me. It become Cammie's and her friends personal mission to find out everything about him; discreetly but what are the odds that a potential spy can have a normal relationship with an ordinary boy who thinks that the Gallagher students are all rich, snobby parents daughters. But I guess that's what people will think when they don't know all the truth. Right?
Ally Carter has done an amazing job with bringing us the Gallagher Academy and I for one couldn't wait to see what Ally had planned next for Cammie and her friends. Though we could have seen more action scenes and Cammie more involved, I guess that was the whole idea of her wanting to be ordinary. Every ordinary person wants to be amazing but ever spy wishes to be and ordinary person. This book brings you an unusual relationship, friendship, awesome teachers, witty teenage girls but most of all it brings you a chance to read about a young girls journey to find just a little aspect of ordinary, regardless of how long it lasts.
