All Chloe Saunders wants is a life like any normal teenage - the chance to get through school, make friends,a and maybe meet a boy. but when she starts seeing ghost, she knows that life will never be the same again.
Soon the ghosts are everywhere, demanding her attention. When Chloe finally breaks down, she's admitted to a group home for disturbed kids. At first Lyle House seems okay, but as she gets to know the other patients - charming Simon and his ominous, unsmiling brother Derek, obnoxious Tori, and Rae, who has a 'thing' for fire - Chloe begins to realize that something strange and sinister binds them all together, and it isn't your usual 'problem kid' behavior.
And they're about to discover that Lyle House is not your usual group home, either.
Review
This is the first book in the compelling trilogy that brings us young Chloe Saunders who's just about to find out the biggest truth yet. This is by far the best paranormal book I have read so far, Chloe is just a 15 year-old student who dreams to be a director/screenwriter - a movie fanatic - cool, right? But things start to change when she gets her first period - that's right, her first period kinda ruined things - everything changes. She starts to see things that are humanly impossible and that's not all; it all just had to happen at school. Worse timing ever, surrounded by all your friends and that one guy who you hope will ask you out, just once? But the last memory they have of you is; you strapped to a gurney, sedated!
This novel takes us on a crazy journey and is seen through the voice of Chloe, it was interesting to see things shape up after the little mishap at Chloe's previous school. After losing her mom at a young age, Chloe rarely sees her dad, and relies mainly on her huge bank account and Aunt who doesn't see anything right with everything Chloe's dad does. After getting sent off to Lyle's House; a home for troubled teens, Chloe believes staying a couple of months will sort everything out, and that her 'Normal' life is still waiting for her, but that's before she gets labeled with the term 'Schizophrenia' and is expected to stay longer, not cool! But is there something else is the midst of all this? What is the truth behind Lyle's House? and the million dollar question; Is Chloe really 'Schizo' or is something else?
We get to meet a LOT of interesting characters who are so amazing even the 'mean girl' totally rocks at being a stuck up brat, and by that I mean Victoria Enright 'Tori', who doesn't leave any stone un-turned in making you feeling like a complete fool or worse. Rachelle Rogers 'Rae' and Elizabeth Delaney 'Liz'. who both are sweet, especially Liz - you wouldn't believe me if I said she's best friends with Tori, right? Well she is - Simon bae and Derek Souza are adopted brothers and are totally inseparable. Simon the cute and likable boy next door type, whereas Derek is the more antisocial 'Don't talk to me' type of guy. So what do you think so far, that Lyle House IS for troubles teens are something else?
Things start to change when Chloe starts to hear voices, and when her and Derek get off to a rocky start in the laundry room, it all changes. *Humph* and here I was ecstatically reading,waiting, patiently for things to change. I loved their chemistry, though it did involve a lot of banter and arguing i still enjoyed it; however there was an equal amount of awesome scenes like how Chloe helps Derek with THAT thing, and how Derek helps Chloe with THAT thing - There's a lot of helping - oh and then there's the amazing scene in the basement with dead bodies. Yep I have totally lost the plot with how romantic moment should ACTUALLY be like. Oh I should probably tell you now that Chloe is a necromancer, hence the dead bodies in the basement, and Derek is a ..... and Simon is a ....... you should totally read this, because I ain't spilling nothing.
The Summoning is totally amazing, and the ending was just OMG. This book finished to fast for me and only bad part was me wanting more. I needed and finally got The Awakening. The Summoning should be read by all YA book lovers and even more by those who love a little paranormal read, I sure love them. Kelley has done an amazing job bringing a group of teenagers in search for the truth. This book brings you a thrilling, paranormal YA book, spooky home for 'Troubled Teens' *wink wink* and most of all a book about friendship and loyalty that can be stronger than family, but the teaches that its never to late to help those you love the most, especially your family.
